Being a truck driver is like no other profession. It is truly one of a kind and that is what makes it so interesting. Truck drivers are skilled in their own unique way and not everybody can do it. It takes hard work, experience, and the right mindset to have a great career. You might think that drivers get certified, hop behind the wheel, and start driving. For the most part, yes. But there is so much more to the profession and that is why we are here today. We are going to teach you some things that you might not have known about trucks and their drivers.
Did you know that some truck engines are programmed so drivers can’t speed. So don’t honk your horn at them because they’re not going as fast as you are! Nobody likes being stuck behind a semi but the fact of the matter is that most companies limit the speed of their trucks. The limit is often programmed into an engine’s computer, making it impossible for a truck to go faster even if the driver feels it is necessary.
Did you know that a truck driver’s cab is like a mini apartment? Cabs often come with sleeping quarters, a bathroom, and things like power outlets that can accommodate small appliances like refrigerators, microwaves, and cooking gear. When truckers aren’t driving they need to rest somewhere. Why go in and out of motels when you can have something right behind you!
Lastly, did you know that most drivers like to drive alone? Like other professions, drivers need to focus and the best way to do so is when they’re alone. Nobody to distract or bother them while on the job. Like any other desk or office job peace and quiet is the best environment for focus and success.
Truck driving is a profession that requires a lot of grit and determination. Truck drivers are essential to our global supply chain so next time you get stuck behind one be patient, know that their truck is like their second home, and allow them to focus and do their job to the best of their ability.
