Supporting our Troops, Veterans, and Disabled Veterans: A Group Effort
By: Kiriaki (Koula) V. Rozakis, Human Resource Administrator
GR Trucking, LLC and Crete Crush, LLC recognize the importance of giving back to the community through charitable donations and volunteer efforts. Annually, we support several local events including the Rancho Cordova Fourth of July Parade, Rancho Cordova Christmas Tree Lighting, and the Cordova Community Food Locker. The Companies are always in search of opportunities that give back in a meaningful way. We are fortunate to work for and with individuals who encourage and welcome this.
Last December, GR Trucking, LLC was contacted by the Corporal Charles O. Palmer II Memorial Troop Support Program to support their annual fundraiser, the Christmas and Caring Ball. The program, launched over 9 years ago by Chuck and Teri Palmer in memory of their son, is a volunteer effort designed to give citizens in the California Central Valley the opportunity to reach out to active duty military personnel, veterans, and their families. To date, it has helped ship over 23,000 care packages to troops deployed around the world. The Christmas and Caring Ball makes it possible to mail these packages, but also provides assistance to veterans and disabled veterans when they return home.
In addition to supporting the fundraiser, employees chose to organize a collection of donation items and a care package assembly day as a community outreach project for the Spring. A large barrel was placed in the main office in Rancho Cordova where donations including food and hygiene products as well as entertainment items were collected. The goal was to complete 20 care packages to be mailed to troops serving overseas. On June 23rd, a group of employees took time out of their Saturday morning to sort the donations by category and assemble boxes. Together, the group assembled more than 25 care packages and a box of hygiene products to fill another 25 boxes. Each also included a personalized note thanking the troop for their service and sacrifice. It was a wonderful event and so very humbling; knowing that items which we often take for granted would reach service men and women in need.
GR Trucking, LLC and Crete Crush, LLC are honored and proud to support our troops, veterans, and disabled veterans and look forward to additional opportunities to assist them.
