Maintaining Big Rigs

Big rigs are made to transport large loads and often times have to travel long distances. Driving a big rig is no joke as it requires special licenses and certifications depending on what kind you are driving. That being said the last thing you want to have to worry about while on those long hauls is breaking down. Today we are going to go over the best ways to maintain your big rig.
Maintaining your big rig is a lot like maintaining regular cars. One of the easiest but arguably most important things you can do is change the oil regularly. Most drivers are well aware of the need for regular oil changes, but people still drive until they have a serious problem. Heavy duty vehicles need significant amounts of oil so neglecting this critical lubricant can cause costly delays and repairs.
Next, make sure you inspect your radiator. Temperature control is one of the things that keep big rigs running strong for years. It is recommended that you check the radiator before each new route. Also, if there are any significant leaks it is extremely important that these are repaired so you avoid an overheated engine.
Lastly, regularly grease moving parts. Big rigs have dozens of points that need grease but this is actually a maintenance job you can do yourself. Regularly greasing the moving parts of your big rig will help all of your equipment last longer while requiring less maintenance. It can be a messy job but as mentioned before this is something you can do on your own and will keep your rig in top condition.
Pre-trip inspections require oil checks, radiator inspections, and properly greased components but if you can do these things more than once it will help your big rig last much longer.
